Since 2016, I’ve built a specialism in gathering and editing in-depth case studies for NGOs such as ActionAid, Crisis UK, and Refugee Week. I’m skilled in safeguarding and mentoring people to tell their own stories, and I have experience in managing junior team members. Please see a summary of some of my projects below.
ActionAid – Women and the Covid pandemic, 2020
When Covid hit, I was working on ActionAid’s Stories team in London. Working in lockdown, we gathered striking case studies that showed how the pandemic was affecting women around the world – from tuk-tuk drivers in India to domestic violence activists in Uganda. I conducted interviews over the phone and mentored colleagues in the field to gather stories. We asked interviewees to submit photos and video-diaries. The case studies were used in ActionAid’s Covid appeal, 2020 Christmas appeal, and media coverage (such as this Reuters article). Photo credit: ActionAid.

Refugee Week, 2018
Refugee Week commissioned me to do portraits of their “ambassadors” – refugees from around the world who were living in the UK, and who had volunteered to be spokespeople during Refugee Week. I also held a blog-writing workshop for the ambassadors and edited their pieces. The photos and blogs were used by Refugee Week, BBC World Service, and the Huffington Post. You can see a slideshow of my portraits here.

Crisis – Homeless World Cup, 2018
I found and interviewed members of England’s Homeless World Cup team for Crisis. These case studies helped Crisis with a strategic aim to reach different audiences via arts, sport and consumer media coverage, and via its own social media channels. Photo credit: George Olney.
